At least on debian sid, in order to install a working bitcoin client, I was able to get bitcoin-qt. working with libdb5.1++-dev (amd64,5.1.25-11). bitcoin-qt recommends libdb4.8++-dev but 4.8 is apparently not enough. [read more]
